A few months ago, we travelled to Brazil to get a closer look at VEJA, meet the people behind the brand and understand what makes its approach to fashion different. We came back convinced that there's much more to its sneakers than meets the eye. But having strong values doesn't mean standing still, and VEJA knows that staying connected to contemporary culture is just as important as rethinking how things are made. Its latest move? A collaboration with Los Angeles-based PLEASURES that gives the Salar a whole new look.
This time, the two brands have turned to nature for inspiration, transforming an actual image of plant roots into an organic camouflage pattern. Earthy shades reminiscent of tree bark and fallen leaves cover the sneaker, which features mesh and suede panels for the first time in the Salar's history. The original Vibram sole remains, preserving the technical character of a silhouette that works just as well in the city as it does outdoors.
Founded in 2015, PLEASURES has always had a close connection to music and the subcultures of the 1990s, which makes this collaboration an interesting meeting of two very different worlds. And that's also something we appreciate about VEJA: its willingness to keep exploring new ideas without forgetting what brought it here in the first place. After seeing the work that goes on behind the scenes in Brazil, it's nice to see that same curiosity reflected in the brand's creative decisions.
