Gigi Hadid opened the show, Romeo Beckham closed it, Kate Moss arrived just before it started, and Bad Gyal was among those watching from the front row. Then, Slayyyter took over The Plaza for a surprise performance of DANCE.... Tommy Hilfiger brought them all together yesterday in New York, because if there’s one city where completely different worlds can share the same room and somehow make perfect sense, it’s probably this one.
Known as the city that never sleeps for a good reason, New York has never been particularly interested in limits either. Different scenes constantly collide, and you never quite know who might walk through the next door. That sense of possibility feels increasingly valuable in fashion, an industry moving so quickly that genuinely surprising people has become much harder than it sounds. Yesterday, Tommy Hilfiger managed to keep that factor alive.
Only a few days ago, we were talking about The Plaza on METAL when Tommy Hilfiger’s Autumn 2026 campaign, Only in New York, took us inside the legendary hotel alongside Travis Kelce, Gigi Hadid, JISOO, Peggy Gou, Frances Tiafoe, and Carmelo Anthony. Now, the brand has returned to the same address for New York Fashion Week, turning a location that already played an important role in its latest chapter into the setting for Spring 2027.
The connection goes much further than finding an impressive location for a fashion show. Tommy Hilfiger lived at The Plaza with his family for more than a decade, making one of New York’s most recognisable addresses part of his own story. Filling its Palm Court and Terrace Room with the Tommy community for Plaza Prep therefore felt like bringing everything full circle.
And while everything happening around the show certainly deserves our attention, let’s focus for a moment on what actually came down the runway. Tommy Hilfiger’s DNA is very much present, because after forty years there would be little point in pretending otherwise. Red, white, and blue remain essential, and collegiate references run throughout, but Spring 2027 feels particularly fresh, with vivid yellow and green entering the picture and familiar proportions becoming more playful.
Rugby dresses, Oxford shirts, and polos meet tartan blazers and very short chinos, while two-tone skate sneakers bring some nineties energy alongside boat shoes and penny loafers. These are recognisable pieces with a different attitude and, more importantly, clothes you actually want to wear. Functionality never comes at the expense of design. Tommy Hilfiger doesn’t need to rediscover the codes it helped popularise; it can keep finding new ways and new people to wear them.
Tommy brings Fashion, Art, Music, Entertainment, and Sport together through F.A.M.E.S., an intersection we know particularly well at METAL and one that came to life inside The Plaza. Kate Moss, Bad Gyal, Camila Cabello, JISOO, Arón Piper, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Hyoyeon Kim, Yuri Kwon, and Sooyoung Choi shared the room with Carmelo Anthony, Josh Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Miles McBride, among others.
That says quite a lot about how Tommy Hilfiger has managed to remain culturally relevant after four decades. The people who helped build its universe still have their place, while new faces continue to enter it. Looking back is inevitable with that much history, but living exclusively off it is another thing entirely.
The final minutes made that particularly clear. After Matt Jones and the Matt Jones Orchestra moved between classics and a contemporary soundtrack, and Romeo Beckham walked the final look, Slayyyter took over with DANCE.... The American pop artist has built a devoted following with her provocative approach to pop and an internet-shaped visual universe that speaks directly to a new generation. Choosing her says something.
Tommy can have Kate Moss walking into The Plaza and understand everything her presence represents, then hand the finale to an artist speaking to a completely different audience. One doesn’t cancel out the other. For a brand with forty years behind it, knowing what to preserve matters, but knowing who should be part of what comes next matters just as much.
Perhaps that’s ultimately why The Plaza worked so well for Plaza Prep. For one evening, a place where different lives have been crossing for more than a century became a pretty accurate representation of Tommy’s creative community. The past was everywhere, but it never dominated the conversation. New York keeps moving, fashion moves even faster, and Tommy Hilfiger seems perfectly comfortable moving with them.
