Tinlicker and Helsloot reunite on Edge of Forever after previous collaborations including Because You Move Me, which has passed one billion streams, and Tell Me. Released through Remember The Future and [PIAS], the track continues the artists’ ongoing collaboration in a more restrained register. The song emerged while Jordi van Achthoven, Micha Heyboer, Hero Baldwin and Thomas Helsloot were touring Europe and the UK together. Writing between destinations on their tour bus, they recorded ideas as they travelled through cities, forests and long stretches of road.
“The beginnings of songs are often difficult to locate,” Baldwin reflects. “We like to imagine that they arrive with a clear moment of inspiration, a line, a melody or a declaration. I've found more often than not, they begin as an atmosphere that gathers around us until, almost without noticing, we begin to become it.” A few days later, Baldwin and Helsloot listened back to the material recorded on the bus and pressed record again. The melody and lyrics arrived in a single take. That spontaneity remains in the finished track, where Baldwin’s voice moves through breakbeats, basslines and synths built for both reflection and the dancefloor.
Touring, Baldwin explains, gradually changed the way she understood fulfilment. “As life became larger, the things that nourished me became increasingly modest,” she says, recalling late-night conversations, card games, sunrises after working through the night and the silence shared with people who became family. That idea informs the song’s central question: “Can you slow down time?” Rather than asking life to stop, it directs attention to moments that often pass unnoticed. “These moments scarcely register beside the scale of our ambitions, and yet they possess a curious completeness,” Baldwin continues. “They ask nothing of us except our attention.”
The accompanying video, directed by Jordi van Achthoven and filmed along the English coast and countryside, places Baldwin in open landscapes that echo the song’s contrast between stillness and movement.
