Last night, London got in full glam to welcome a new edition of the Fashion Awards organised by the British Fashion Council. No one wanted to miss such a special occasion celebrating the uniqueness of the British fashion industyr: Rihanna, Julia Fox,  Michèle Lamy and Rick Owens, Debbie Harry, Stanley Tucci, Maya Jama, Anok Yai, Lila Moss, Alexa Chung, and many, many more attended the exclusive event. Some of the winners included Jonathan Anderson, A$AP Rocky, Priya Ahluwalia and Alex Consani. Wanna know more? Let’s do a recap.
Taking place at the magnificent Royal Albert Hall, the Fashion Awards celebrate excellence and support the next generation of creative talent. But it’s not just an awards ceremony with a show-stopping red carpet; it serves as the main fundraiser for the BFC Foundation, which supports the future growth and success of the British fashion industry through its focus on education, grant-giving, and business mentoring.
In total, sixteen different awards were given, but let’s discuss some of the most important. Of course, we must start with Designer of the Year, which Jonathan Anderson won, beating tough competition including Chemena Kamali for Chloé, John Galliano for Maison Margiela, Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu, Pieter Mulier for Alaïa and Rick Owens. This is the second year in a row that Anderson wins the title.
Other designers who went home with a statue include Grace Wales Bonner (from Wales Bonner) for British Menswear Designer, Simone Rocha for British Womenswear Designer, Marco Capaldo (16Arlington) for New Establishment Womenswear Award,  Priya Ahluwalia (Ahluwalia) for New Establishment Menswear Award, and Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena (Chopova Lowena) for BFC Foundation Designer Award — congratulations to all of them!
One of the most viral winners of this edition though has to be Alex Consani, who’s been awarded  the Model of the Year Award. The outgoing, cheeky American doll has dominated the industry these past twelve months, securing magazine covers including Interview’s 55th Anniversary issue as well as The Face, AnOther, Perfect, TeenVogue, and Document Journal (wearing the Simone Rocha collection for Jean-Paul Gaultier Hauture Couture).
Presented by Michèle Lamy, the Cultural Innovator Award went to A$AP Rocky, who dropped some mega Bottega Veneta workwear on the red carpet and was joined by his wife, Rihanna, proving that they’re one of the most stylish, coolest couples out there. From new school to old school, Tom Ford was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for his invaluable contribution to the industry throughout his impressive career.
Two different photographers won a statue last night too: the legendary Nan Goldin for her London campaign with Gucci, and Tyler Mitchell for his innovation and contribution to the industry, which have re-shaped it.
