Few relationships have shaped TAG Heuer quite like the one it has built with motorsport. Racing and precision have been part of the Swiss watchmaker’s identity for generations, and this year, one of the clearest symbols of that connection reaches an important milestone. The TAG Heuer Monza turns fifty, and the brand is celebrating with a new limited edition unveiled ahead of the 2026 Italian Grand Prix.
To understand why Monza matters, we need to go back to the early 1970s, when Heuer became Ferrari’s official timekeeper and began a partnership that would become part of Formula 1 history. In 1975, Niki Lauda won the World Championship with Ferrari, giving the team its first drivers’ title since 1964. Heuer marked the victory one year later with a new chronograph named after one of racing’s most legendary circuits: Monza.
What started as a celebration soon became an important part of the brand’s story. Over the following decades, the Monza evolved through different versions while maintaining the racing identity that had distinguished it from the beginning. Now, exactly half a century after its arrival, TAG Heuer is returning to that history without simply recreating a watch from the archive.
The new TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer takes cues from the 1976 original while reflecting what the brand looks like in 2026. Its black and red colour palette remains closely connected to the first Monza, while the use of forged carbon brings the watch firmly into the present. Its flyback chronograph movement adds another link to the world that inspired it, where measuring every fraction of a second has always been central to the relationship between TAG Heuer and racing.
Limited to five hundred numbered pieces, the anniversary edition arrives at an especially fitting moment, just before Formula 1 returns to Monza. Fifty years after a Ferrari victory inspired its creation, the watch finds itself back where its story began. For TAG Heuer, it is both a celebration of an icon and a reminder that some relationships are built to go the distance.
