Complete composure in the face of adversity. Songzio captures the unflinching fearlessness of his characters as they travel into a different time in their Spring/Summer 2027 collection. Contemporary updates on historical Korean signatures lead to a liminal space existing outside time and place. Structure lives concurrently with fluidity, while discipline and freedom find a way to move together.
Songzio’s signature fusion of Korean heritage and modern contexts through deconstruction and innovation shines through. Traditional hanbok elements, such as the git, a removable collar, are updated to work with contemporary styles. Armour-esque shapes are juxtaposed against asymmetrical draping for fluid movement, proving softness can live in synchronicity with strength. Pleats are twisted and shaped to exaggerate the body, enhanced by the use of multilayered constructions that turn the look into a physical manifestation of travelling through worlds.
The primarily monochromatic colour palette is thoughtfully disrupted with shades of berry red, olive green, citron and blue. Fabrics are combined for intrigue, exploring how textures interact with one another to complete each look. Natural habotai silk, wool linen, cotton linen mesh, organza, vinyl and tweed are paired in contrasting matte and metallic finishes for an added layer of coexistence.
Cinched waists are exaggerated with voluminous skirts, ballooned trousers complement tighter shirts, and proportions are manipulated and deconstructed in a meticulous way. Duality heavily influences this collection, echoing its name, Impavide, remaining calm amidst fear and not allowing the chaos to diminish one’s vigour.
The accessories remain subtle but perfectly complement the avant-garde silhouettes, with ribbon neckties wrapping around the body for cohesiveness. Leather boots with cut-outs at the front appear like an opening in the armour: the character has walked into this universe and, while partly remaining guarded, is open to experiencing this place by touching the ground.
