Louis Vuitton has announced the launch of its capsule collection of workwear. The collection will include ready-to-wear pieces, a limited-edition toolbag, and a long-awaited boot collaboration with Timberland. The first word we'd associate with Louis Vuitton is likely not workwear, but this collection infuses the utilitarian, comfort-forward style with a touch of "dandy elegance"—yet another example of the maison's fluid and flexible approach to fashion.
The thought behind the clothes is clear. The sophisticated patterns, delicate embroidery, and vibrant, hyper-dyed colours are overlaid on craftsmanship that is versatile and truly durable. Faded denim and yellow-brown leather are clear inserts from the American West workwear style, while turquoise and pearl embellishments add that element of dandy. Maybe the best representation of this fusion is the Keepall 50 Toolbox, a limited edition reworking of the Maison's iconic bag. While it keeps its earthy hue, the bag is otherwise transformed into an entirely functional toolkit complete with multiple pockets, a steel flask, and even a cigarette case.
Let's not forget footwear. In this collection, Louis Vuitton features their collaboration with Timberland to create work boots, the LV 6-inch, LV Boot, and a fifty-pair limited edition of the LV 6-inch with the phrase "The sun is shining on us" engraved in 18-carat gold, a quote creative director Pharrell Williams said during his debut show last year. The shoes are crafted from Italian nubuck leather and are entirely water-resistant. They're adorned with decorative eyelets and the LV monogram, only visible at close range. This latest workwear collection demonstrates that the Maison is committed to its tradition of fine craftsmanship, and is ready to bring its unique lens to other, new frontiers of high fashion.
