It seems we are all living in Kenzo’s world. For its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, the brand transformed Place des Victoires into a world of its own. The choice of location is no coincidence: in 1976, Kenzo Takada established the brand’s headquarters, boutique, and studio there. Fifty years later, the address has been reimagined as a series of Kenzo destinations: a pop-up store, a café, a florist, and a market inspired by the neighbourhood mini-mart.
The first impression of Nigo’s collection is unmistakably preppy. Rugby shirts, varsity-inspired knitwear, striped scarves, and oversized cardigans create a wardrobe that feels borrowed from an Ivy League campus, then reworked through a distinctly Japanese lens. Emblem patches, oversized K motifs, and polo collars morphed into dresses define the collection, while thin ribbons create a subtle dialogue between past and present. A nod to the ribbons once sourced by Takada in the same square, paired with waist-cinching obi-inspired belts, becomes the thread that ties the collection together, literally and symbolically.
Oxford professor meets Japan. Structured outerwear and mature tailoring are softened by playful proportions and unexpected styling. Button-down shirts coexist with lace skirts, while floral prints and ruffled silhouettes bring a sense of lightness to the menswear collection. A reminder to see beauty in the unexpected is printed on a cape-like knit featuring a poem written by Takada himself: “A tree is green. All trees are green. We have seen so many green trees that we have forgotten there are also pink trees. But if all trees were pink, I would have told you about a green one. The world is beautiful.”
