We all have those hot summer nights of mid-July in mind. It’s not just the Young and Beautiful lyrics by Lana del Rey; it’s a precise feeling of nostalgia. That moment when summer isn’t over yet, but August is starting to approach, and June and the beginning of summer feel like they happened a decade ago. The light-hearted moments, the midnight conversations, the unbearable heat, and the knowledge that it won’t last forever; these will be the memories keeping us warm on those grey and cold winter days. For their Spring/Summer collection Ganni takes us on an immersive journey back into that peaceful summer feeling we all are starting to miss.
The collection was presented through an immersive exhibition evoking summers spent in Hirtshals, a coastal Danish fishing town where the designer grew up. This time, the confident and effortlessly cool Ganni Girl steps aside and leaves the spotlight to the clothes and the memories to arise. It feels like stepping into a Monet painting with flowers and bushes popping from everywhere. The flower fields blur as we look out of the window from a moving car, and the sun is starting to slowly set at the horizon by the beach.
Master of the layering, Ganni can pull off the boldest combinations. Fabrics wrap around torsos, hems and shoulders, creating new silhouettes and adding drama and colour, like when we were kids and played dress-up, tying, twisting and knotting bedsheets to create a whole new wardrobe. Vibrant, blurred floral prints are carefully combined with different shades of the same print. Dresses are layered over dresses, t-shirts, and baggy pants. Crochet flowers bloom across tops, dresses and skirts, begging to be touched.
Last but not least, the accessories: colourful small bags spread across a shield like a lively flower field, in pink, yellow, blue, orange and every imaginable shade. Larger pieces in crochet, denim-like textures, and leather hang with delicate floral branches, transforming the scene into a true paradise for bag lovers.
