Just in time for spooky season, Elodie Gervaise is releasing the first double A single from her upcoming album Exosoul [of Anaïnja], set for release on the 13th of December. The two new songs, titled I See You I Understand and Swallow Me Whole are the prelude to a nine-track record, the first LP in her career after several singles and EPs. So what can we expect? As seen on the first tracks, the Berlin-based artist is here to explore themes of passion, desire, lust, but also love and personal connection.
That sense of connection among us humans is apparent from the get-go. The title I See You I Understand is testament to Elodie’s aim to build bridges among us, to find points of connection rather than things that make us grow more apart. She also looks for this connection with Alexander Alien, the producer behind the track. As she explains, “I See You, I Understand is about the importance of trust in romantic relationships, so as to maintain each others’ sacred independence. It speaks to the often overlooked themes and dynamics of modern relationships: communication, honesty and acceptance.”
The other side of the double single is Swallow Me Whole. Speaking of it, Elodie says that it “describes a feeling of sexual liberation. It was born abruptly after a weekend of passion and opening into sensuality. This track expresses an unapologetic desire to devour endlessly, and in turn be swallowed whole, through connection, lust and love.” To make it more visual, she’s released it with a spicy, horny music video NSFW (well, safe enough for YouTube to not take it down, of course, but you get it).
This is just the beginning of Elodie Gervaise’s new era after breaking into the scene back in 2016. With a path mostly influenced by electronic music, she’s now shifting towards a more intimate, raw, and even experimental path. It’s risky, yes, but it also sounds more genuine and true to herself.
