Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again… The reason? The new drop by Dr. Martens. Celebrating their long-standing relationship with Rick Owens, with whom they started collaborating in 2021, they’ve announced a new release of lace-up boots that will have the internet panicking to get them before they sell out: the Pentalace 1B60, the 1460 Megalace, and the Steel-toed.
This match made in heaven (or better, hell) caters to fans of both brands, combining Dr. Martens’ craftsmanship and resistant materials with Owens’ bold, instantly recognisable aesthetic. His emblematic multi-lace shoes are easy to spot everywhere, balancing uniqueness with everyday comfort. Now, and just like his previous collabs with the British footwear giant, he gives us three new models that will have our feet stomping the streets in entangled pearly laces.
Speaking on this, Rick Owens says: “I thought I had invented it, but I recently realised that my mega-lacing is a memory of the boots Joseph Beuys wore during his 1965 performance How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare. It was one of the first artistic moments that shaped me. Isn’t it fascinating to discover the power of what we retain subliminally? That combination of industrial construction and shamanic ceremony, almost a pagan hallucination, is still what drives me.”
To keep creative control over the drop, the designer shot the campaign himself in his Paris studio, starring Sissy Misfit, a London-based Turkish producer, performer, and DJ known for her fusion of intense electronic sounds with elements of techno and pop.
If you’re as obsessed with us, mark your calendar: this new collab drops on October 16 worldwide via Dr. Martens’ official website as well through selected stores.
