We all know that kids’ imagination is unhinged — they say, think of, and create the most surreal things. But we’ve all been there, and may will agree with me that we should try to keep the spark of emotion alive for as long as possible. That’s precisely what Collina Strada does in her new collab with Desigual, titled My Best Friend and I. Taking imaginary friends as a starting point, the American designer teams up with the Barcelona-born brand to drop a new series of dreamy garments.
Photographed by Charlie Engman and starring Delilah Belle, the campaign takes place inside a house. But don’t get it wrong — the four walls aren’t limiting or constricting; instead, they’re a metaphor for ourselves, proving that what’s inside of us (our mind, basically) has no boundaries. At least, that’s what happens to children, and that’s the idea behind the My Best Friend and I collection.
After delving into AI, sustainability, and the gardening world in past collections, Collina Strada now focuses on the oneiric realm for the second collaboration with Desigual. The collection has a heavy focus on prints — from abstract watercolour flowers on tartan to sunflowers or daisies decorating geometric structures, to smoke screens distorting flower gardens. The silhouettes bridge the masculine and the feminine seamlessly so wearers can choose their mood — from body-hugging and slip dresses to oversizes jackets, cargo pants, jorts, and cut-out tops and blouses. Sustainability plays an important role as they’re made of materials including sustainably sourced BCI cotton, responsibly sourced Lenzing™ Ecovero™ viscose and recycled polyester.
