The devil is in the detail for Colin Horgan, the Irish designer synonymous with high quality craftsmanship and tailoring. He strikes, yet again, with his Spring/Summer 2023 collection titled Imposed Faction, which shows a combustion of creativity neatly packed into a fourteen look collection.
Presented by DiscoveryLab, Horgan showcases his fifth exposition at London Fashion Week, this time in the form of a high-energy, be warned, strobe-heavy video which teases its viewers at first with split-second glimpses before delving fully into the powerful and striking looks. Starting his collection with a soft, sheer lilac off-the-shoulder dress paired with matching flared trousers, the look is finished with a meticulously stitched low-dropping asymmetrical panel, an ongoing unique design choice seen throughout the collection and a signature feature of the Colin Horgan universe.
Promptly interrupting the delicate lilac, an array of flashy pinks takes centre-stage in the form of trench coats, dresses and trousers. Overlapping panels, free-falling straps and harnesses create a mystical maze of three-dimensional pieces, puzzling in its assembly but awe inducing in its presentation. The latter half of the collection sees the designer explore sky and navy blues, notably through his use of denim. Oversized bomber-style jackets, sculpture-like dresses and endless silver zippers offsetting, or perhaps blending in with the stark white twin stitching, the clothing offers a sense belonging and impactful territorialism.
Imposed Faction sees the designer use and reuse his techniques of overlapping flaps and straps in an innovative manner that breaks down and rebuilds the Colin Horgan identity for a neo-luxurious look. Finished with slinky braided hair and futuristic makeup, the women he dresses are nothing but powerful and fearless.
