Club to Club 2019

Turin's Club To Club festival celebrates its nineteenth edition from October 30 to November 3. In true Halloween spirit, it offers a chance to congregate near-exclusively in darkened inside venues for five days of music – we can’t wait! The festival is named La Luce al Buio: Season 2 (translated as ‘light in the dark’) – as last year’s edition had the same theme – and reminds us where the focus lies at any festival: on the strobe-lit dance floor and/or the illuminated artists.

Slowthai is sure to make a riotous opener on Wednesday 30 in OGR (Officine Grandi Riparazioni), whose debut album Nothing Great about Great Britain evokes the dark and the light of the UK’s tumulus political landscape. Housed in the nineteenth-century industrial metal framework of OGR, it’s sure to be a moment to remember. Newly added artists Sophie and Romy of the XX join the programme alongside festival mainstay and Grammy-award winning Flume and fellow synth-sorcerer James Blake. Both Flume and Blake play at Lingotto fiere, another vast, haunting industrial space.

Black Midi also ascends to the stage on Friday. Hailed by Shame as “best band in London”, they have the seal of approval from new wave punk titans. Black Midi are the fresh-faced lads forging a new space in rock music hauled forward by Geordie Greep’s unfathomable vocals – their music is confusing and hypnotic. Meanwhile, for electronica-heads, AI music explorer Holly Herndon takes Proto to the stage – our highlight for Thursday. Trance-like evenings will be sure to stretch deep into the night thanks to Club to Club’s stellar programming. Many musicians on the line-up are making their Italian debut or exclusive show in Italy. Post-genre, eclectic programming will be packing a punch at the end of next month. This is one of the most experimental electronic festivals in Europe, so it is not one to miss.
