Charlie Jeer joins forces with Cat Burns on “small talk,” an optimistic first glimpse of Take Away My Problems that celebrates the excitement of new beginnings.
Charlie Jeer returns with small talk, his new collaboration with Cat Burns and the first track from his forthcoming EP, Take Away My Problems. The just-released single follows SO GOOD with Simone Ashley and continues a particularly busy year for the 24-year-old British artist, bringing his saxophone-led sound into a warm, disco-inflected pop track centred on the excitement and potential of new beginnings.
How much can come from a simple comment on TikTok? Quite a lot, apparently. The collaboration began when Burns left a message on one of Jeer’s videos, opening a conversation that eventually made its way into the studio. There is something fitting about that origin story for a song called small talk, particularly one that Jeer describes as capturing “the hope of beginnings.” Burns takes over the second verse with her distinctive raspy vocal, adding another layer without disrupting the smoothness of the track.
For Jeer, that chemistry was immediately clear. “Getting Cat Burns’ warm, raspy vocal to sing verse two effortlessly complements the sonics of the song so well,” he explains. Burns was equally quick to connect with the track, describing it as “smooth, cool and just a very exciting piece of art to be a part of.” What started with a social media interaction has become the opening statement of Take Away My Problems, placing collaboration at the very beginning of Jeer’s next chapter.
It hasn’t even been two months since we last caught up with him around SO GOOD, yet the pace has hardly slowed. Since then, Jeer has continued taking his music to bigger stages, recently supporting Becky Hill in Canterbury and preparing for an increasingly international run of shows. In October, a European headline tour takes him to cities including Stockholm, Berlin, Paris, London and Amsterdam, with several dates already sold out. Australia follows in November, extending a year in which his audience has continued to grow far beyond the UK.
