After painting 2024 of an acid green hue with brat, Charli xcx is getting ready for the next challenge in her career: the big screen — she’s everywhere, she’s so Julia! The British singer will be starring in the debut film of photographer Aidan Zamiri and distributed by A24 — a match made in heaven, if you ask us. And we already known the title: The Moment. But what is it going to be about?
So far, the script and story are being kept under wraps. But on a recent post on Instagram, Charli gave us a very small sneak peek of what might happen there. In a couple of snapshots, we can read things like “Walking in, CHARLI looks visibly relieved to be surrounded by people who know who she is,” “Charli looks on bemused,” and even a line of her script, where she says: “I just want you to know that I am in pain.” A rollercoaster of emotions, it seems.
The Moment is going to be the directorial debut of Scottish photographer and filmmaker Aidan Zamiri (fun fact: he shot the METAL 44 cover with Rina Sawayama), who co-rote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes. Another artist involved in the feature film is Charli’s friend and longtime collaborator, A. G. Cook, who’ll be in charge of the score.
This is all the information we have so far, which is enough to keep us up at night. Charli has made some cameos and incursions like her recent Saturday Night Life hosting gig, where she was also the musical guest. But this project is going to be her biggest so far — audiovisually speaking, of course. With Aidan’s brilliant mind and aesthetic, A. G. Cook’s masterful production, and A24 being involved in it, we have no doubts the resulting film will be fabulous.
