Dropping worldwide last Saturday July 14, the new Carhartt WIP x Brain Dead collaboration is the first between the workwear company and the Los Angeles-based collective. The founders of Brain Dead, Ed Davis and Kyle Ng, have been selected to reimagine an assortment of Carhartt WIP’s most iconic products in their unique post-punk, graphic-inspired vision. Executed in vibrant colors and stylized graphic designs, the joint collection bridles with excitement as it adds a new flair to classic Carhartt goods while remaining true to the company’s origins.
Known for its blue-collar workwear designs, Carhartt WIP has maintained a constant and respected presence in underground scenes ranging from hip-hop to skateboarding. The company has also worked with streetwear brands such as Patta and Vans, cementing its relevance in the rapidly changing environment of fashion today. Working with the esoteric West coast brand, Brain Dead, will allow the workwear behemoth to tap into an audience that appreciates the post-punk and skateboarding subculture that plays a part in the Los Angeles lifestyle.
Much-loved styles from the collection including the classic Bib Overall and Chore Coat are produced in light-weight nylon fabric and vibrant yellow and green colors. The pieces are also complemented by an eclectic selection of graphic t-shirts, a Beach Carpenter Pant, and a Logo Cap accented with a Carhartt patch and Brain Dead’s signature pencilled logo. To coincide with the release of the collection, both brands are releasing Brain Dead Index Vol. 1, an exclusive publication featuring a compilation of graphics and illustrations from a slew of renowned contemporary artists. Dedicated installations commemorating the release will also be held in Dover Street Market London, New York, Ginza, Singapore, and Beijing.
