Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee might have never thought that they'd be known for creating designer denim, yet here they are. Never in his wildest dreams would the Alabama-raised DiCaprio ever think he'd be showing his New York-based brand in Paris Fashion Week, on the first day, yet here they are. And this collection is exactly about this, about dreams – or nightmares, depending on how you see it.
The duo quotes Beyoncé with “You can be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare” as they ponder on this same concept, whether a dream could be confused with a nightmare as time goes by. As many say, hindsight is 20/20, and what might seem like a dream at first can eventually turn sour and become something else. This is probably why this is a collection full of contrasts all black looks which feature leather, snap harnesses, spikes and chokers are counteracted by bubblegum pink – albeit seen in complete fishnet looks –, faux fur inserts seen in fake mohawks, dresses and aviator hats and debutante skirts and dresses.

They play with transparencies and outfits that showcase underwear plain in the open – indeed, a nightmare for many, depending on how you see it – through inventive clear nightgown looks which include things like thong stockings. It is a mix of punk-inspired and alternative elements that make up quite a complete collection that shies away from the commercial side of things, as DiCaprio puts it: “We’re excited about selling commercial things. But I think this season we weren’t afraid to make things that weren’t necessarily for sales and to say that that is an integral part of our brand.”

And pieces like the workwear prom dress, the pirate bra, the zipper opera glove or the nightmare hat prove this. All of this meaning to say, this collection could be your absolute dream or your worst nightmare, depending on whether you're liking this experimental route or if you're not digging it. However, we applaud the pair for leaving this plain and entering a dream world to give as a complete fantasy.
