For the occasion, a special display has been created at the Tokyo store. The set up shows a selection of the exclusive custom-made suitcases and trunks dedicated to the movie. The collection, taking inspiration from Prada's own vintage models from the 1920s and 30s, was designed for two of the leading characters, as well as a black nappa leather coat for Joplin, played by Willem Dafoe. The models designed for the film's leading lady, Madame D. (Tilda Swinton), have a wooden frame wrapped in soft vacchetta leather to create a vintage effect, in oak and natural tones, and are lined in peach pink sateen cotton. The suitcases were also given additional custom touches by talented artist Mieke Casal, who painted the initials of the character's name “Mdm. C.V.D.u.T” (Madame Céline Villeneuve Desgoffe und Taxis) on the leather in typical 20s style.
As the adventures at The Grand Budapest Hotel took place in the 30s, everything used in the movie was specifically made for it. With this collaboration where Prada is partner leading, we have the chance to see some pieces from the movie in real life as well as to inspire the next generation.
