The industrial infrastructure of this port-city is juxtaposed with the natural beauty of the ocean. This exhibit is site-specific as Lindbergh, too, juxtaposed harshness and beauty in his work. His black and white photos are narrative focussed; Lindbergh captures the harshness of an individual moment in time as well as the natural beauty of his subjects.
He became the fashion industry’s pre-eminent photographer throughout his career. His work was regularly featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Interview. Supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista were frequent subjects for Lindbergh. The defining feature of his work was his refusal to conform to conventions; he opted not to retouch his images, for example.
Untold Stories includes one hundred and sixty one images from the artist’s prolific career. Iconic and lesser-known images are displayed together providing the viewer with new insights on the photography legend. A new book, Raw Beauty, accompanies this exhibit and features interviews with Lindbergh’s most influential subjects including Naomi Campbell and Rosalía. Creatives with personal connections to Galicia, including Nick Knight and David Chipperfield, feature essays in this book. The exhibition brings Galicia and Lindbergh together. Their shared aesthetics create an ideal environment for this retrospective of a photography icon.
