Maya Malkin launched her solo musical project in 2020, a year that has left a mark on all of us and made us question how we were living. However, she is not a newcomer to music, far from it. She had entered the scene with her band Motel Raphael, playing the likes of Osheaga, SXSW, and opening a sold-out show for Tegan and Sara, among other achievements. Now she holds nothing back and opens up emotionally with her listeners. Today she’s releasing her new single, Honey, preceding her debut album Congratulations, which drops on February 17.
“Honey is the calm before the storm. Probably the most lighthearted on the album, and one of the only songs with a positive twist, Honey hints at the issues that the rest of the album tackles without yet understanding the darkness that lies ahead,” the artist comments on her new release, which comes as a preview of what we will find in her new album, Congratulations, which will be released in 3 weeks. The Toronto-based artist who is making pop with a purpose is here to offer the sounds of victory and healing. And she seems to be on the right track to achieving it.

Having released songs with tens of thousands of likes on Spotify like I Hope You Have a Horrible ChristmasHostage or Congratulations, she is now stronger than ever after having come out the other side of an abusive relationship. Since she released her first solo single, Maya has continued to work to shape her personal creative vision by sharing her talent with her fans. And she now continues the support for her eagerly-awaited debut album Congratulations with the vibrant new single Honey.
