In her new single Award Season, Maya gives out the awards that her past lovers deserve. Awards that are far from being something good and coveted, with which the pop singer-songwriter born and raised in Seattle and now based in Los Angeles brings us closer to her reality, her life experiences and her feelings. This is a new, fresh pop banger that feels fun but also includes her dark pop side of her.
“Worst kisser, bad dinners, sh*t listeners, etc.” answers Maya when we ask her about the categories that we can find in the particular awards that she’s giving in her new single, Award Season. “Since we were running with such a strong lyrical concept, I wanted to make sure the song also sounded like an award show production-wise. We played around with orchestral pop elements including a large string arrangement and dramatic vocals,” she adds. And there is no doubt that she has achieved it. “Round of applause / Got my red dress on / I ’ll go one by one / List off everyone,” she sings with determination.

Having been connected to music since she was a child and after having released her debut single Intoxicated in February of 2020, the rising star specialises in dark pop vocal melodies as well as vulnerable and unapologetic lyrics that have captivated audiences worldwide. Her fan community does not stop growing and there are already more than 28,000 people who follow her musical footsteps on Spotify, where her single Bittersweet already exceeds 650,000 streams. Now, playing around with orchestral pop elements including a large string arrangement and dramatic vocals, it's Award Season's turn.
