For the presentation of their latest men collection, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, the talents behind Opening Ceremony and newly creative directors from KENZO, got invited as special guest designer at Pitti Uomo 83. Staged in the city's historic food hall, the Mercato Centrale di San Lorenzo, smoke-filled, Kenzo's Fall/Winter 2013 show was an exploration of the skies and ancient mythologies.
Without a surprise, we could appreciate Carol and Humberto signature tailored sporty silhouettes, in different futuristic fabrics and brilliant patterns, from celestials daytime and nighttime clouds to lightning bolts, raindrops and stars. The new iconic sky painted -camo looking- print was for sure one of the success of the collection, capturing all the essence of KENZO urban new world while staying true to Takada legacy. It was a really heroic, graphic and innovative collection, inspired by airplanes lines and pilots, from the clothes to the accessories. The technical fabrics, developed almost entirely for the collection, emphasized the idea of warriors and goddesses.
For the accessories, Kenzo continued its collaboration with Delfina Delettrez and introduced mens jewelry in the main themes of the collection, as the interesting metals pocket squares. But it was for sure the bags that called the attention, designed in collaboration with the hard-shell manufacturer Boblbee, providing a clear vision of functionality and masculinity.
For 4 days, Carol and Humberto took possession of Pitti, showing not only their collection, but their will to power, opening a pop-up shop set up on the fairgrounds, with exclusive wares; and throwing a party in an incredible palace. The duo, as their warriors, are for sure on the right direction; the year started under the sign of the tiger.
