Welcome to Les Jardins de la Couture, the whimsical and colourul collection that Dior has just presented at the jaw-dropping Villa Erba near Lake Como, Italy. Victoire de Castellane, at the helm of the Maison’s Haute Joaillerie department, has introduced 170 new pieces including necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets and tiaras inspired by flowers, sunsets, and lace, which the models showcased together with haute couture looks by Maria Grazia Chiuri especially designed for the occasion.
“In this collection, there’s a mix of couture jewellery pieces with these interpretations of braids, lace and flowers, which are declined either as flowering bushes or are cut out like embroidery motifs” de Castellane explains. The entire collection is divided into smaller categories like The Buissons Couture, Les Jardins de Milly and The Galons Fleuri, each of them featuring different elements but working together as a cohesive pack.
“The Buissons Couture are these flower bushes of different shapes and sizes. For me, it was important each time to create this relief effect where the flowers emerge and overlap” says Victoire. “Then there’s Les Jardins de Milly, with the mini Millys. It features these little scenes that are created in a very precious way but with a childlike spirit. This collection has lots of bright colours with pink sapphires, blue sapphires and diamonds. The Galons Fleuri collection features braids in these small floral shapes which appear on this all-diamond parure” she concludes.
Certainly, the collection plays a lot with colour and volume as we can see in a shiny golden necklace. “The Très Cher Dior features a sunset with an emerald-cut yellow diamond. With this glittery gold lacquer that blurs the lines with the gold background and the white diamonds,” Victoire says about the spectacular piece, which goes together with a double-finger ring that “seemed an obvious choice since the sun has to be able to shine and spread its rays,” as de Castellane puts it.
These elegant and glamorous pieces were showcased together with Maria Grazia Chiuri’s designs, who draw innspiration from Victoire’s jewels. “With Maria Grazia, we only meet once. She looks at the gouaches, then she comes back to me with these dresses especially made for this jewellery theme. Some of the silhouettes are super feminine, with these dresses that are richly embroidered with flowers” explains the jeweller.
The intimate show ended with majestic fireworks reflecting on Lake Como’s surface, which added a new layer of oneiric fantasy to the collection. If you want to be transported to a whimsical, fantastic world full of glimmering flowers, shiny sunsets and luxurious rainbows, take a look at the video and pictures below. Whoever said daydreaming was bad hadn’t seen the Les Jardins de la Couture collection.
