This past summer, for Celine’s menswear presentation, Slimane already chose an unusual venue for a fashion show: a Formula One circuit in the South of France. Sticking to this sports theme to portray the new generation – Gen-Z –, the Spring/Summer 2021 womenswear show has taken place in the small yet luxurious city-country of Monaco, more specifically, in the Stade Louis II. The venue’s grandiloquence contrasted with the more laid-back feel of the clothes, which are perfect for the unprecedented times we’re living in.
Comfy dresses, straight jeans, bomber jackets, logo-stamped tracksuits, sporty crop tops, perfecto leather jackets and cosy knitwear cardigans make up most of the collection, which is also complemented by baseball caps, bucket hats and all types of flats – ballerinas, sneakers, hiking boots and Wellington boots. Today’s women have ditched high heels and uncomfortable clothes for more practical, wearable pieces. However, true to the House’s French heritage, Slimane doesn’t abandon Celine’s subtle and refined approach to glamour. Contrasting with the more relaxed clothes and fit, we can also find sequin dresses and sweaters, double-breasted blazers, a navy jacket with big, statement golden buttons, and quilted leather bags.
