Drawing from influences within ‘80s synth-pop, pop-punk, classic rock, and current artists like Rina Sawayama and Lady Gaga, bexx continues to shape her eclectic, euphoric alt-pop sound. A sound that is accompanied by subjects including queer dating, body image, mental health, and her favourite romcoms, which now goes a step further in her latest single, I’m Disgusting!. The new talent in the UK pop scene will be performing at Splendor in Nottingham on July 22 and has other confirmed dates at Notts Pride, Bute Fest, and Colchester Pride.
“Opening up to someone new is scary, and admitting the strength of your feelings can be kind of icky. This song is about the fears that go through your mind in a new relationship and the nervousness of not quite knowing where it's going to go,” says bexx when we ask her about the meaning of her new single, which comes along with a music video directed by Aaron Bishop and produced by Luke Clifton. Taking a fresh, honest, and relatable approach to the dating landscape, the singer continues to demonstrate a close and honest connection with her fans.
She uses her songwriting to carve out space for fans to feel accepted and hopeful even in their lowest moments, and in this new single the artist is determined to explore the complexities of modern-day relationships, from situationships to emotional availability and the overall anxiety that comes with being vulnerable. When it comes to sound, the proclaimed bisexual singer draws inspiration from the high-energy pop-punk of Paramore, the introspective musings of Maude Latour, and the infectious melodies of The Feeling. Stay tuned, because her upcoming debut EP, SUCKER, is due for release this summer!
