A few months ago we were provided with a first teaser trailer that paid homage to Stanley Kubrick's
2001: A Space Odyssey and showed us the first glimpse of Margot Robbie in character as Barbie, wearing the doll's original look, a stripped black and white swimsuit and cat eye sunglasses, when she was introduced back in 1959, as well as showing us shots of Ryan Gosling as Ken and many other cast members in their element.
More of the sneak peek inside the Barbie universe is seen in the second teaser trailer, which was published yesterday. Every characteristic of a Barbie world is there, including being entirely pink, vivid, electric, fun, and wild. We witness Gosling's Ken and many other Barbie variations, like
Issa Rae as the President Barbie, Emma Mackey as the Nobel Prize winner Barbie,
Alexandria Shipp as the renowned author Barbie, and
Simu Liu as Gosling Ken’s rival, the other Ken.
Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir also play the Ken variants too. Will Ferrell, who plays the Mattel executive,
Connor Swindells, who plays his intern, and Michael Cera, who plays Ken's closest buddy Alan, and Kate McKinnon as the alternative Barbie are some of the other prominent actors that appear in the teaser.
The movie's premise is currently mostly unknown, but what is known is that after being dethroned as the ultimate Barbie, she has an existential crisis and goes to the real world with Ken to become the ‘true Barbie’ again. Other members of this cast include
Dua Lipa,
America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt,
Hari Nef, Helen Mirren,
Sharon Rooney,
Nicola Coughlan,
Emerald Fennell and many more.
Barbie appears to be a joyful and exciting experience for the audience based on the poster and teaser trailers, especially for those who have been fans of the Barbie franchise since they were little. When the film debuts on July 21st in theatres across the world, we will see more of this fun romp.
