Challenging the traditional approach of exhibitions, photographers Ivo Sekulovski, Dario Salamone and Luca Grottoli have organized A Theme is not an Exhibition, a group show opening in Milan’s Marsèll Paradis that also includes the works of Bastien Gomez, Romain Madder and Todd Deutsch.
Moved by “the mutual recognition of a common creative ground” and avoiding to use ‘a theme’ to frame their exhibition, the international photographers – who hail from Macedonia to the United States, to Italy, France or Switzerland –, aim to present a more experimental, open-ended collective show. As rare as it may seem, there is no curator organizing the pieces in the room so they make sense or writing the exhibition’s leaflets. “As opposed to institutional curatorial practice, self-curated exhibits in Milan are not quite present yet, so we aimed to create an independent space for experimenting with a new curatorial and display practices”, tells us Ivo Sekulovski, one of the organizers and featured artists. Are you curious? Then, don’t miss the show if you’re in the Italian city!
The exhibition A Theme is not an Exhibition will open on December 4 and will be on view until January 8, 2020, at Marsèll Paradis, Via Privata Rezia, 2, Milan.
