This special edition marks thirty years of Acne Studios, the Stockholm-based fashion house founded in 1996 by Jonny Johansson and the ACNE collective. Originally an acronym for Ambition to Create Novel Expressions, the brand now turns its gaze towards Acne Paper, its printed cultural extension, through an issue conceived as a reflection on creative identity.
Issue 21 explores the independent and interdisciplinary spirit that has defined Acne Studios over three decades. The cover, photographed by Carlijn Jacobs and featuring model Lulu Tenney, introduces the themes of artistic freedom, intimacy and expression that run throughout the edition, connecting the publication to the cultural values long associated with Acne Paper and the brand itself.
At the centre of Autoportrait are four self-portrait features created by Jordan Hemingway, Guinevere van Seenus, Malick Bodian and Katerina Jebb, alongside an archive story dedicated to Acne Studios. The issue also includes interviews with cultural figures such as Sadie Coles, Honey Dijon, Max Lamb, Viviane Sassen, Robbie Barrat and Swedish actress Lena Endre, complemented by essays from writers and critics.
Still independently owned, Acne Studios maintains a distinctive cultural voice shaped by collaboration and cross-disciplinary creativity, with a reach that extends across fashion, art, architecture, design and publishing.
