As Covid-19 has put everything on a standstill, everyone is trying to find alternative ways to keep on going. The art world is a clear example – galleries, museums, foundations and other institutions are closed to the public, and art fairs are cancelled. However, there are already interesting initiatives like Not Cancelled East x South, a week-long digital art event of seventeen galleries from the broader south-eastern European region (comprising galleries from Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Georgia), which is exhibiting pieces by a wide arrange of artists until May 18th.
“The idea to group these galleries from the wider region arose from the common denominator of all galleries operating in the periphery of the contemporary art market, while all being crucial representatives of their local art scenes within a global context,” reads the press release. As the art world depends precisely on global meetings and events like art fairs, where collectors and curators from all over the world gather and discover the work of artists based on every corner of the globe, galleries are struggling to broadcast their roaster of talents.
