During Paris fashion week, the city is packed with events to attend. But last Friday’s opening of Elevastor, a shop in Le Marais selling some of the most interesting emerging brands and up-and-coming designers, was for sure one of the best. Of course, we can’t be objective because we were a part of it, but if you were there, you do know: techno, non-stop dancing, and almost everyone staying even when there was no more alcohol. How could you beat that?
First of all, thanks to Thomas, the owner, for the incredible organization and for letting us be a part of it. To Alejandro, Palomo Spain’s founder, for his enthusiasm, kindness and talent. To Tiago, for his management and sick beats. To Nicolas, aka Herrenscheide, for turning a shop into a club, even if for just a few hours. And, of course, to each and every one who came and made it a massive success: from those who stopped by to explore the recently inaugurated space and get lost among the lovely clothing selection to those who danced till the end as if in a rave party.
Elevastor seeks to merge fashion, art and design, even though it’s the first that has the most importance. With a very special eye, Thomas has turned the space of 1 Rue Dupetit-Thouars, just next to Le Carreau du Temple, into a must-visit hotspot for anyone going to or living in the city of light. The cosy space features lots of metal on its walls, both in the form of rings – very practical and original to hang bags or belts, for example – or in bigger structures, which cleverly store the stock.
The strongest point is his intelligent focus on up-and-coming designers and brands like Palomo Spain, Dilara Findikoglu, Arthur Avellano, M1992, Léo, Hardeman, Telfar, Avalone, Neith Nyer, ManéMané, John Lawrence Sullivan, Xander Zhou or Maria Ke Fisherman. They’re all part of a scene of young designers fighting for their own place in the already packed fashion industry, but their unique approach to garment-making is making their names resonate in the biggest publications.
Going back to the party, as usual, the afternoon started in a more laidback mood: nice drinks, good company, and people conversating. But as the sun started setting, things got lit. The music became harder and louder, and the people more inhibited. Hailing from many different countries (Paris is still the unbeatable fashion capital) and backgrounds, the array of people included stylists, fashion insiders, musicians and DJs, photographers, models, PRs, etc. Among many others, we could see self-proclaimed ‘NYC Bollywood Princess’ Richie Shazam, the guys of the French cool band Faire, make up artist Cedric Lanappe, Korean model Asa, or Londoners like Anthon Raimund. But just look at the pictures and see if you recognize yourself. And don’t forget to head to Elevastor to find your next fashion week outfits!
