Kim Jones’ debut for Dior Men felt like a breath of fresh air: extremely clean and polished, clear, and radiant – almost on the other side of the spectrum that Kris van Assche got us used to (think dark colours, all-black-everything campaigns, etc.). Dominated by pastel hues and bright tones – especially pink –, the Summer 2019 campaign, shot by Steven Meisel, makes us crave for the next season to come quickly.
The five models star alongside BFF, a sculpture by Kaws, one of the most venerated and recognizable artists of today. Made entirely of roses (pink, white and red), the figure lays down as if enjoying the breeze on the seaside. But the figure is familiar to us already, and not only because its author is worldwide famous and has created several of them. No, it’s because Kaws already built another giant one for Jones’ debut as Artistic Director of the French house. And the campaign couldn’t be less. “I wanted this advertising to reflect the spirit of the summer show and the beauty of Dior”, affirms Kim.
