Welcome back to the golden era of ‘90s R&B thanks to the silky voice of Noa Lauryn. The Amsterdam-born and raised singer is releasing a new single today, titled Please Don’t Make Me Choose, which reflects on the problems women face when having to choose between having a family and working on their professional career. Of course it can be achieved, but the standards, expectations, and stakes are higher for females. But don’t expect the song to be a punk, denounce song; rather, it’s a neo soul gem that soothes one’s spirit.
Speaking of the song, Noa shares: “Please Don’t Make Me Choose is about the female struggle to divide time and attention between family and career. I wanted to expresses the feeling of eventually having to choose between music and home life under society’s gaze. But sometimes we ‘want it all’ and this song is a call not to judge me or any woman for it.” Well said, Noa!
Right from the get-go, the artist makes a statement about her independence and the right to choose her own path without having to renounce to anything: “There’s a fire in me / I’ve always known that my passion is my path / I want to be free but I want those around me / They can’t depend on me.” And as the chorus concludes, “Please don’t make me choose / I want it all.”
After the 2024 song, Layers of Time, featuring Felix Hien, Please Don’t Make Me Choose is Noa’s second single leading up to her EP, titled Always on Time, which is set to be released on April 25th. The record is inspired by her burnout after publishing her debut album back in 2023. Now, she’s had more time to reflect, relax, and get back to the studio to create more music. After a couple of gigs in London this past January, the singer has also confirmed new dates in the Netherlands in May, a few days after the EP is out. So you better stay tuned and not miss her!
