Calm and transformative, a total epiphany—that's Shape Yourself Around Me, the latest single from Bulgarian duo Woomb. The video is just as dreamy as the team, directed by Joro Manov, one of Bulgaria’s top music video directors, while Krum Rodriguez, known for working on some of the most successful Bulgarian films of the past decade, handled the cinematography. This song is just a taste of To Never Fear The Sun, the EP we’ll get to enjoy on November 15.
Loaded with melancholy and hope, the track feels like a journey that starts tragically but ends in a liberating acceptance of change. It has a signature indie vibe common in Eastern Europe, mixing electronic and dream pop elements. You’ll hear synths, harmonies lingering throughout, and bass that makes a strong appearance toward the end, giving the song an epic finish. The sound is full of layers and textures. The vocals are packed with emotion, narrating the story in a way that, even if you close your eyes or don’t understand the words, you can tell whether it’s a bitter moment or something more uplifting.
The duo made waves last year with their previous releases: the ballad Pray for the Worst, followed by the ambitious Last Rays, and the guitar-heavy fan favourite Picture of a Deer, available only on YouTube with a very rock-inspired aesthetic. In fact, veteran music journalist David Fricke called them "so young, so new, already so good live." Each track is different, and this latest release shows us another side of Woomb that makes us excited (no pressure!) for their upcoming album. Shape Yourself Around Me is the kind of song that makes you realise you’ve been holding on to the wrong thing. Time to add it to your playlist and convince yourself.
