If you’re into folklore, ancient myths and legends, or just horror movies, I’m sure you’re familiar with the beef between vampires and werewolves. These species have been at odds since the dawn of time. But not in Robert Eggers’ filmography. The director is switching the immortal, blood-sucking type for the howling-at-the-moon type in Werwulf, his new movie, which comes out on Christmas Day and whose first trailer is here.
Robert Eggers can do no wrong; his incredible filmography includes works like The Lighthouse, Nosferatu, The Witch, and The Northman. Now, he’s adding another soon-to-be cult movie to the list. Presented in harsh black and white, Werwulf is set in medieval England, where a mysterious creature stalks the countryside, turning the villagers’ worst nightmares into reality. With Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe starring, Eggers is back to making Christmas feel like Halloween.
