If you have social media, I’m sure you’re familiar with the lyrics “Make me sweat, make me hotter / Make me lose my breath, make me water.” It seems like we can’t escape the apparently omnipresent song by Tyla, Water. The twenty-two-year-old phenomenon has been breaking the internet for the past months, and aiming to keep the momentum going, she’s just released a remix of the viral hit together with Travis Scott.
With almost five hundred million streams on Spotify, Water has changed the Johannesburg-born artist’s career for good. Released in July 2023, the feel-good track is an anthem dedicated to passion, desire, intensity and physicality. As a wise blonde would say, that’s hot. And just a month ago, she won her first-ever Grammy for a newly created category, Best African Music Performance, a testament to the prowess of Tayla. Now, three days ago, the singer posted on Instagram the tracklist of her debut album, aptly titled Tyla, set to release this Friday, March 22nd. The upcoming record will span fourteen songs including singles Truth or Dare, Butterflies, and On and On, as well as unreleased tracks like Safer, On My Body, Jump or To Last. It is also rich on collabs, including Travis Scott as well as Becky G, Kevin Momo, and Gunna&Skillbeing. While we wait for the album to drop on Friday, we’ll content ourselves with this new song and music video.
