Since releasing their debut EP, Survivor, in 2017, Tshegue has gained a well-deserved foothold in the global music scene through powerful sound and thought-provoking lyrics that champion authenticity. The duo of DRC-born singer and lyricist Faty Sy Savanet and the Parisian drummer, percussionist, and producer Nicolas “Dakou” Dacunha now present their third EP, Argent, in which through seven explosive tracks sung in Lingala and French they take us on a sensorial journey with a stop in artistic, personal, and political issues, addressing topics ranging from racism and ostracism within oppressed communities to the notions of heritage and success.
Since they first met in Paris eight years ago, Faty Sy Savanet and Nicolas “Dakou” Dacunha really connected through their experiences, their vision of the world, and a clear purpose to make music a place to claim authenticity, honesty, and truth. It was then that they decided to shape their joint project, Tshegue, releasing their debut EP, Survivor, an Afro-punk project sung in Lingala, which would soon catch the attention of Rihanna, who chose the track Manuapoto for her Fenty Beauty campaign. This creative tandem burst onto the music scene with great force and expanded internationally.
Collaborations with prominent figures from the world of art, music, and fashion continued, providing the musical project with an extra dose of excitement and surprise, as well as of course increasing their popularity. We must highlight their live performance at Ibrahim Kamara’s first fashion show for Off-White, with whom they collaborated again on the direction of the music video for their first single from this new EP, Mais. It's a visual gem that you cannot miss.
While this first track, Mais, continues their reflection by questioning the complex relationships to colonization, capitalism, and religion, Sing My Song is a vibrant tribute to Kotazo, a cultural movement born in the DRC and censored in its early days, which draws inspiration from the Shégués. The third single from Argent, Shuffle, aims to be the anthem of an untamed youth and comes along with a music video. The EP includes three more tracks: Easy Money, Click, and Pili Pili. You can now listen to it on all platforms; get ready to embark on a sensorial journey and enjoy it.
