Mexico City continues to solidify its presence in the international art scene with the third edition of Tono, a cross-disciplinary festival that programmes film screenings, performances, music events, and installations across the city’s most important museums like Museo Anahuacalli, Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Laboratorio Arte Alameda, Casa del Lago UNAM, Museo Universitario del Chopo UNAM in Mexico City and Museo Amparo in Puebla. Starting today, March 25th, the event will unfold until the 6th of April with a wide array of activities.
The festival kicks off today with a group show at Laboratorio Arte Alameda, with works by Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Alex Gvojic, Korakrit Arunanondchai, and Luiz Roque, whose practices are across installation and audio-visual media. Another highlight is on Wednesday, as MoMA film curator Sophie Cavoulacos presents select short films by pioneering artist Valenting Noujaïm at Museo Universitario El Chopo. On Friday, it’s time to head to Ex Teresa Arte Actual for the premiere of Eartheater & Freeka Tet’s video and performance. And on Saturday, another unmissable performance is led by Bárbara Sánchez-Kane at Museo Anahuacali.
There is a lot more to unpack, from other performances and concerts to screenings and exhibitions. For example, their video art curation at Axe Ceremonia festival (April 5th and 6th), where Tono will be taking the Traición stage featuring works of Andrew Thomas Huang, Gabriel Massan, Jacolby Satterwhite, and José Eduardo Barajas.
