Cambodian-American alternative/indie singer, songwriter, and queer advocator, Thavoron is releasing his brand new single Forever Young today. The artist gives us a melodic and intimate view into his personal bubble as he continues to try and represent more queer people in the music industry. He personally believes that there is not only not enough representation of the LGBTQ+ community, but he also hopes that he can pave the way for more Southeast Asian/Asian American representation in a predominantly white context.
Forever Young begins with a somewhat quiet guitar riff that accentuates his eerie vocals and acts as a background to his sensual performance, giving the song a more personal, candid, and approachable tone. As the song progresses, the music becomes louder and more intense, blending a more noticeable guitar riff with a heavy use of the drums that ramps up the intensity of the track.
Thavoron’s eerie vocals also give a surreal tone to the song, emphasising its sensual imagery and rather intimate setting. His vocals blend with the increasingly intense background instruments, elevating the song’s tone and emotional intensity, and brings us deeper and deeper into his world. This leads to that euphoric finale that blends these two separate, but linked, elements in a unique way that puts a final bow on the story.
The artist’s music is an intense melodic journey that not only gives us a personal, raw look into his personal life. The music video, which has a strong homemade vibe and features clips of Thavoron in his room (à la Omegle) posing and showing us his Tumblr profile, speaks about the current times of hyperconnection vs hyper isolation, where we can connect with strangers but not with those around us.
Oh, and don’t miss him this weekend if you’re in Tacoma as he’ll be presenting Forever Young and his other tracks at the Pride celebrations!
