What lies behind a simple ‘how’s your day been?’ The Irish singer-songwriter, now based in London, Tadgh Daly, opens his heart with this new single, How’s Your Day Been, an alternative pop song that combines festivity with raw and sincere lyrics.
Sometimes, there is a whole universe camouflaged between the words ‘how’s your day been,’ which want to express much more than pure courtesy. With this title, the singer-songwriter satirises the connotation that can be given to this phrase that we so often repeat automatically. The need to transcend the superficiality of this question becomes a longing to initiate a more meaningful conversation. It often marks the beginning of dialogues that don’t transcend and just becomes an obstacle to recognising that behind those simple words, there’s much to be said.
Tadhg brings us a much more carefree and fun proposal than what he offered in his last EP. In Not Right For Love, released in October 2023, grief and loss were the main characters of the songs, but this new record is a bit more hopeful, as if it’s the continuation of the story he tells us in his previous EP. It’s a breath of fresh air for new beginnings. Even though the scars of the past are still healing, the song talks about two people who are emotionally broken but falling in love. It expresses the fear of admitting it, of reopening oneself to emotional risk without being fully prepared. But the feelings are there, so who can fight against that?
This release is only the introduction to his upcoming EP, set for release later this year. With Alanis Morissette and Jeff Buckley as referents, he promises to keep working to achieve his best sound. We'll be watching closely.
