With one month left until the release of Run It Back, South Summit are entering a new phase at full speed. Their latest single, Heartless, arrives surrounded by tour announcements stretching across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK, pushing the Perth five-piece into their busiest period yet. Everything around the band right now feels in motion, with the new album slowly getting closer and the live schedule becoming bigger week by week.
Written during a recording trip to Yallingup in Western Australia and completed during the final hours of the session, Heartless transforms emotional fallout into something unexpectedly euphoric. The song circles around distance, accountability, and the slow collapse of a relationship, while dance and house influences give it a brighter pulse built for live settings. “It’s a retelling of something painful into something beautiful,” the band explain. “To us, the best way to heal is through music.”
The single arrived alongside a music video filmed at the summit of Bluff Knoll, one of Western Australia’s highest mountains, capturing the same sense of release and emotional lift running through the track itself. At the same time, Heartless also marks another step toward Run It Back, the follow-up to The Bliss. The band have described the upcoming album as a reflection of changing perspectives shaped by constant touring and time spent away from home. “Touring had a huge impact on the writing,” they explain. “Being in different countries gives you a new perspective and the songs started to come more naturally once we trusted that.”
That live energy has become central to everything surrounding the album. Before heading overseas, South Summit will play what they describe as “five of the biggest headline shows we’ve ever done” across Australia, before bringing the Run It Back tour to New Zealand throughout July and August. The international run then begins at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg before continuing through Berlin, Paris, Bristol, Manchester, London, and a final stop at Paradiso in Amsterdam.
The countdown to “Run It Back” has officially started, and “Heartless” suggests the Australian five-piece are stepping into their biggest chapter yet.
