“What is the difference between walking on the ground, in the landscapes of ‘real life’, and walking in the imagination, as in reading, writing, painting or listening to music?” Starting from this question posed by the British anthropologist Tim Ingold, Shota Nakamura shapes his new exhibition, each passing day, which he is now presenting at Peres Projects in Berlin. You can visit his most self-reflective exhibition to date until July 8 and enjoy the impressive pieces. Do not miss it!
Making extensions of his paintings into other realms, his compositions depicting a leaky boundary between domestic and wild spaces invite the viewer into his kaleidoscopic worlds. It is precisely in the contemplative figures, in meditation and transit where the artist finds inspiration in his work, made up mostly of oil paintings. Through his creations, the painter combats the hectic pace that defines our lives, responding with a calm stillness, relieving the viewer from the relentless influx of images and media. The different planes merge with each other, achieving an interesting effect that is recognizable as soon as you look at his creations.
Nakamura, who was born in Yamanashi, (Japan), and lives and works in Berlin, once again trusts the Berlin gallery Peres Projects to unveil his work in front of the audience, who can now visit the exhibition. Now you have the opportunity to be one more of the somnambulant figures, walkers and readers in each passing day move through the landscapes of real that are represented in his work. And it is that the artist, who has presented his paintings in several international group exhibitions such as Mendes Wood DM, Sao Paulo, Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose, Jack Hanley Gallery, New York and In Bloom, Belsunce Projects, Marseille, shows us that there is many more ways to interpret and understand the reality in which we live. Sometimes we just have to stop for a moment to get to know and explore them.
