What happens if you blend Weapons, The Substance, Scream, Final Destination, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and 2000s unhinged humour? You guessed it: the new Scary Movie film! For their sixth installment, director Michael Tiddes brings back the ‘core four’ (Cindy, Brenda, Shorty, and Ray) to survive, once again, the familiar serial killer Ghostface.
Using Final Destination’s premise as the plot (the idea that once you escape death, it will chase you non-stop until its plan is finished), the new Scary Movie promises to be as funny, ridiculous, and politically incorrect as ever. But times have changed quite drastically, so it begs the question: how far will the director and screenwriters dare to go? The newly released trailer comes with a warning: “Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.” Will this be true? We just have to wait until the movie is out on the 12th of June.
