Japanese cult brands sacai and WTAPS have come together to develop a capsule collection exclusively for the ‘Hello sacai’ store in Omotesando, Tokyo. The collaboration explores the WTAPS Mill series through the distinctive lens of Sacai. Featuring WTAPS’ utilitarian design, the capsule reinterprets the ‘WMILL-LS 01’ and ‘WMILL-LS 02’ shirt alongside the 6-pocket ‘WMILL-TROUSER 01’ and ‘WMILL-TROUSER 02’, respectively.
The military-inspired pieces reinterpret WTAPS’ wear patterns and black satin fabrics with Sacai’s nylon twill and hybridization of contrasting textures. Chitose Abe’s skilfully reinterprets the patterns of WTAPS garments transforming the pieces into unexpected silhouettes, giving them a touch of distinctive elegance. The name tags have a single stitch line, a prominent features of the Mill series which has been washed up to add texture showcasing a worn aesthetic.
A military effect can also be seen in the choice of colour, with the pieces featured with an army green bomber-like jacket, and styled by the highly-esteemed stylist Akio Hasegawa, who carefully layers the pieces for the campaign pictures.
Launching at the end of this month, the sacai x WTAPS collaboration will be available exclusively at Hello sacai. No other sacai stores, sacai online, or any WTAPS retailers will have access to the capsule collection, in order to prevent confusion at the store, an online raffle will begin on March 24th for the in-store purchase.
