Romanie returns with Anything or Anyone, a new single built on gently plucked guitars and a restrained structure that leaves room for the song to breathe. The track leans into simplicity and lets its emotional core surface gradually rather than pushing it forward.
Anything or Anyone centres on loneliness and the impulse to withdraw, but frames that instinct as something to be challenged. Instead of turning inward, the song points toward connection, suggesting community as an active choice rather than a given. There is a sense of openness in how the track presents these ideas, allowing listeners to find their own entry points without having to overexplain them.
“This song is a really big reminder to myself that I’m not alone. I wrote it in the midst of a really dark and lonely time, thinking I was completely alone by shutting myself out,” Romanie shares. “Living on the other side of the world, choosing a career that is not straightforward — it can sometimes feel like you’re screaming into the void. I think the song, even though it stemmed from a sad time, is a reminder and dedication to anyone who has ever felt lonely (all of us) and a reminder that we are never alone. Community is everything.”
The single stands as the final preview ahead of Romanie’s sophomore album, It’s Not That Funny, set for release on February 20. Reflecting on the track around its release, she said: “I also want to dedicate this song to anyone who’s ever felt lonely and let you know that there’s always some light around the corner.” That perspective runs consistently through the wider project.
Alongside the single, Romanie will host a listening party on February 19 at Low Key in Westgarth, where It’s Not That Funny will be played in full for the first time. The event will also include a screening of a music video tied to the project and the chance to purchase the record directly, reinforcing the sense of shared experience that underpins Anything or Anyone.
