In a world obsessed with immediacy, where capturing someone's attention seems harder than ever, releasing a six-minute single already says a lot about the artist behind it. Lucien Fraipont, better known as Robbing Millions, has never seemed particularly interested in following the rules. Experimentation has always been part of his DNA, and his new single, See You Again, released today, proves that he's still happy to take his time. Three years after Rêve Party, the Belgian musician returns with the first taste of his fourth album, expected in spring 2027.
The track opens with a winding bassline that brings Thundercat to mind before drummer Elias Devoldere introduces a restless groove with echoes of Tony Allen. What started as a concept in Fraipont's mind slowly evolved with the help of his live musicians, including bassist Raphael Desmarets. There's something wonderfully spontaneous about the result, with subtle influences from Brazilian popular music slipping into a sound that refuses to sit comfortably within any particular genre.
And while the rhythm might suggest otherwise, See You Again isn't exactly a happy song. Beneath its almost euphoric energy lies a reflection on relationships that fade away and the strange ways we experience absence. “Lately I've been thinking about my grandpa when playing that song,” Fraipont admits.
Nina Kortekaas, known for her work with Sylvie Kreusch and Noa Lee, lends her ethereal vocals to the track. Meanwhile, Jay Watson, whose credits include Tame Impala and Pond, among others, took care of the mix. Robert Beatty is also involved in this new chapter, creating the visual universe for the forthcoming record, which will arrive via Capitane Records.
