Nova-Scotia queer duo Pillow Fite has just released their debut album, Hard Feelings, Soft Promises. The project led by Art Ross and Aaron Green invites us to immerse ourselves in a journey that runs through all sorts of emotions and experiences, in an unforgettable adventure with a stop in love and heartbreak, suicidal thoughts, redemption, and more. Championing music with a message and connecting with their audience through brutally honest lyrics, hope and pain meet in this new work that follows the release of their debut EP, Flutter.
Written heavily from the lens of Ross’ experiences as a trans person whilst also dealing with the new added pressure of the male-dominated music industry, the album is infused with raw vulnerability. “Art is full of big ideas and even bigger feelings,” says Aaron Green when asked about the album’s creative process. This results in songs that convey powerful, authentic, and impactful messages. “The songs range from “I love you” to “fuck off.” I feel my role in the band is to realise Art’s vision with arrangements and sonics that provide the proper environment to communicate their message effectively,” he adds.
From Sunday and Ativan to Alma and Camera Roll, the nine-track album can't be categorised in a specific music genre. They prefer to create their own instead through creative freedom and the condensation of feelings in song form. “We always say that our genre is very much like our genres,” explains lead singer Art Ross. You can now listen to Hard Feelings, Soft Promises, released today via LHM Records. The musical duo will be performing today at The Delaney, New York, and have more dates confirmed in the USA for the next few weeks. You can find all the information here.
