Behind the name stands Ricky Garcia, a twenty-six-year-old artist raised in California’s Imperial Valley. After years producing music, he stepped into writing and singing, discovering a directness that production alone could not provide. Garcia lives with a stutter, a detail that has shaped both his resilience and his approach to creativity. Rather than limiting him, it became a source of strength. “Having a stutter has helped me find my voice as an artist. Growing up, it was hard for me to express myself through words in a way that I would’ve liked. I learned that when I sing, my stutter goes away,” he explains.
That search for voice and purpose is central to the world of Oranje Space. His moniker itself was born from a song that surprised him by its warmth, leading him to chase that light and offer it to others. Community, hope, and honesty have guided his path ever since, and Shiny Penny continues that trajectory.
Built around gentle layers of production and Garcia’s expressive vocals, the single reflects on the fragility of love under pressure. “Shiny Penny is about insecurity in a relationship. It's about knowing that in the present moment you don't have much time to give to someone you love, but that you don't want them to leave you. It's basically a letter saying, will you wait with me until I have the time to give you what you deserve,” says Oranje Space.
