You might know Omar Rudberg from the successful series he stars in, Young Royals (Netflix), which is sadly coming to an end in 2024. You might also know him for his music, especially his top-charting hit, Mi Casa Su Casa, which garners almost thirteen million streams on Spotify. However, today we speak with the multi-hyphenate artist as he’s broadening his creative scope with his new beauty brand, OMR Beauty, launching today with the first product: Intro.
“As a creative soul, it’s so easy for me to create, whether it’s music or developing beauty products or a brand vision,” he tells us in this interview. This imaginative spirit paired with a proactive attitude has brought Omar Rudberg to step out of his comfort zone and get himself involved in yet another creative endeavour. OMR Beauty has been in the works for at least a year, and today, the hard work pays off with the release of Intro, a unisex perfume that he describes as “incredibly well-balanced.” Furthermore, he adds: “While it is powerful and spicy with a hint of sweetness, it’s not heavy or overwhelming like some scents can be.”
Intro is presented in a sleek, minimalistic bottle made of purple-tainted glass, which is already available online. It mixes ingredients as varied as juicy grapefruit, luxurious orris, sweet apples, Brazilian pink peppercorn, soft lavender, spicy ginger, warm sandalwood, sensual amber, and green leaves. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Well, the only way to try it is by smelling it, so you should give it a chance. If you’re not convinced yet, read today’s interview with Omar where we speak about his first memories toying around with makeup and perfume, his favourite scents, and future projects.
Hi Omar, it’s a pleasure to speak with you. How are you feeling today?
I’m doing well! I have so much going on right now, working day in and day out. But it’s fun.
You’re an actor, singer, and now founder of a beauty brand. What does a ‘normal’ day in your life look like (if there’s ever one)?
No day is like the other, and that’s what I love about my work. I’m spending a lot of time in the studio, focusing on new music. I’m also looking forward to the release of the final season of Young Royals in 2024. OMR Beauty is also taking up a significant portion of my time. I usually start my days by checking in with the team, and it can range from a photo shoot to a full day at the office.
Recently you were debuting on the big screen with Karusell, and this week you’re launching your lifestyle brand, OMR Beauty. It feels like you’re living a pretty sweet moment! Do you believe in manifesting? Maybe you repeat some daily mantras?
I always think that nothing is impossible; I just go for it and do what I believe in. OMR Beauty is something I’m truly passionate about, and it was so important for me to create a modern unisex brand with really good products.
You don’t shy away from your love for makeup and cosmetics. Do you remember the first time you toyed around with makeup and perfume? How has this relationship evolved over time?
When I was a child, I often borrowed my mom’s makeup, but it was something I quickly washed off again. For me, makeup and fashion are just fun. It’s a way for me to express my creativity. Today, I don’t care about what others think; I just go with what I find stylish. After launching my first fragrance, my interest only grew even more.
You’re officially launching the brand with Intro, a unisex perfume that comes in a sleek purple bottle. On an Instagram post, the caption reads: “Confident, Juicy & Sensual.” Is that how you would describe Intro to our readers?
Yes, absolutely. Intro is truly a confident fragrance that I personally love. I’ve been using it secretly for almost a year now, and I just like it more and more. It’s also so much fun to hear that others do too. It is incredibly well-balanced. While it is powerful and spicy with a hint of sweetness, it’s not heavy or overwhelming like some scents can be. This makes it easy to wear.
What are some of your favourite scents? Not only perfumes but maybe food, random stuff (gasoline, glue, paint…) or even people? Anything olfactory that triggers something deep inside of you.
I don’t have any strange preferences regarding scents, like gasoline or similar things that some people might enjoy. I like it when things smell fresh, like freshly showered, for example. The best is when you hug or walk past someone and think, wow, that was a nice scent.
The other day I was reading this very interesting article about how niche perfumery is growing, and how creators are releasing scents designed to smell like fear, anxiety or plastic dolls. But that’s not new: we all remember Lady Gaga’s Fame perfume, which she marketed as smelling of semen and blood, similar to the way you smell after having sex. What are your thoughts on these wilder takes on perfumery?
It sounds exciting, I would say. It might be a bit difficult to imagine how such descriptions actually smell, but yeah, cool!
This is a bit random, but there is a renowned art gallery in Mexico City called Galería OMR. Did you know about it? When I first read the name of your brand, it just brought me there (laughs). Btw, have you been there?
What a great name! Those who decided on that name have very good taste. I haven’t been there, but I will look it up.
You’ve always been creative and been involved in the entertainment industry. How have you faced the challenge of launching a brand, which involves more business-related knowledge and skills?
I believe in daring to try and stepping outside one’s comfort zone sometimes. As a creative soul, it’s so easy for me to create, whether it’s music or developing beauty products or a brand vision. But it’s also about choosing the right team—those I work with think like I do and share the same values, which naturally makes the process easier. I love working with my new brand. I’ve been doing it for a year now, and so far, it’s been absolutely fantastic. I’m learning a lot.
This is just the beginning. I guess OMR Beauty will expand into more products. It might be a little too soon, but what are your plans ahead?
Sure, you would probably love to know, right! What I can say is that we’re working on some amazing things. But right now, our focus is on Intro, which has just been launched.
I can’t finish the interview without talking about your other creative endeavours. For example, you’ve been releasing quite a lot of music this year, mainly singles and remixes. Should we brace ourselves for something bigger soon, like a bigger EP or even an album? Oh, and you’re preparing your first concert in 2024, aren’t you?
Yes, I’m currently working on my first solo concert, something I’ve been looking forward to so much, and I’m so grateful for the response. I have lots of plans for my music, and there are some great things in the works. That’s as much as I can say for now.
And you’re coming back to everybody’s screens through Netflix’s successful Young Royals series in 2024. It’s the last season, I’m afraid. What can we expect?
Tears, drama, and love! No, but it’s truly magical. It has been an amazing journey. And this season will definitely deliver. Grab your tissues, just saying.
You’re saying farewell to Young Royals as well as to our readers (for now). Are you good at goodbyes? Do you get emotional?
Goodbyes are never easy. Of course, it was emotional. But the series will live on. And it has definitely changed my life.
Wishing you the best of luck in your current and future projects! <3
Thank you so much <3
