Marius Britt wrote his first song, Going Nowhere, in high school. Since then, having learned to play different instruments and complementing his training in a self-taught way, he has not stopped working to shape his musical project, Montazona. After writing and recording his second album Butterfly in his apartment, now the multi-instrumentalist singer and producer releases his new single, New Waves. This song condenses his reaction to moving to Los Angeles and his shock at the speed with which things move there.
“I tried to make it upbeat and ‘trendy’ while getting my over-thought point across. I guess my goal with the song would be to provoke people to appreciate things that they like because they like them, not because it's cool right now or because everyone else likes it,” says Britt about his new track. In it, he recalls an important life experience and shares a great reflection with today’s fast-paced, oversaturated world we live in. In a society in which trends fade more and more quickly, the artist invites us to reconnect with ourselves to be more aware of our decisions.
Influenced by a wide range of musicians, from Tame Impala to Jungle, Mac DeMarco to The Black Keys, Montazona, who draws on distorted psychedelic guitar lines, dreamy synthesizers, and emotional vocals, likes to take his time and be thoughtful in almost every aspect of his life, as he tells us. “It was a big adjustment for me. Everything in music, fashion, art, and even regular life is a trend here and there has to be something new right now every single day. For someone like me, it gets overwhelming. That's what New Waves is,” he adds about the experience and subsequent impact that inspired this new song.
